Time Together June 1983

 I've wondered a lot,

How we figure into

One anothers lives.

What it is

That  makes us

So special that

We take the chances

That we take so freely.

Regardless of the pain

That seeing each other

Can bring into our lives.

Regardless of how little the

Amount of time we spend together

Only caring that we spend it together.

Random Remembrances

 My first remembrance of life is  a recollection of being in the front room of what I think is the first house our family lived in. The house was a wood frame house on the property of my dad's Uncle, Hollis Wiley Sanders outside the small Alabama town of Goshen.    I have a memory picking cotton at Uncle Hollis'. I was standing in between rows of cotton with a "croker" sack, standing with my mother. I remember sitting on what was called the pump house in the back yard of Uncle Holis & Aunt Ethel "Ahny". This pump house was made of cinder blocks with a green flat top. It seems like the top was metal of some kind. I remember being given peaches and slurping them up because they were like candy. Conversation with John 3/5/23

 John called today to share a story about dad.  He said he had gone back to work with Dad after working at Kroll Electric. They left the house and mom had made sandwiches for their lunch. Mom had made John's with mustard and dad's without. When they stopped for lunch they got out their sandwiches and take took a bite. "Oh damn! She put mustard on my sandwich!" John looked at his and it didn't have mustard on it. He told dad they could just switch and he would eat the one with mustard. Then as John was contemplating he asked dad, "Why don't you like mustard?" Dad replied, "Well we had gone down to Campbellton, FL where Granddaddy Davis had a farm for a family get together. We had to leave real early, about 4:00am, so we could get there before lunch. There weren't many roads and they were all dirt roads so it took a long time. When we got there we began to eat. Strange Feeling

 There's a strange sort of feeling not many talk of It's not really a hurting pain And it's not really a feeling of relief It's the kind that's hard to explain. It's just a feeling of emptiness That's been there for such a longtime You never even noticed it until it was too late And one of the least expected of things you'd find. It's a just that's like a feather in your throat. Not much to complain about, but enough to be there And you never knew that it was growing Or changing your heart into something that doesn't care. When you finally know what it is You find it hard to believ and wonder how it got here Not realizing it was taking away precious moments Of your time, Breaking apart the work of several years. And when it comes to justifying the reasons, You can't figure out what to say or who to blame.
